Multi-Platinum rapper Toosi surprised everyone on Monday when he announced he is committing to play football at Syracuse University. The 25-year-old artist, whose real name is Nau’Jour Grainger, is putting his music career on hold to join the college team in New York. He decided to make this change to pursue a childhood dream after talking with Syracuse head coach Fran Brown. Toosii believes this opportunity is a sign to return to the sport he loves.
Toosii shared the news on social media with photos of himself in a bright orange Syracuse jersey, number 2. He wrote, “COMMITTED. For every kid who ever had a dream, make it reality.” Before becoming a star, he played receiver in high school. He lived in Syracuse before moving to North Carolina, so this is a homecoming.
It is unclear if he has a scholarship or will join as a “walk-on.” Regardless, he seems ready to work hard. It is rare for a celebrity to play a D1 sport, so fans will be watching to see how he performs.
