
Khira L is a 7th grader at Wellington Landings Middle School. I am interviewing her about speech and debate.
Q: What made you interested in speech and debate?
A: I got interested because I like to talk, but also like to argue about topics, speech and debate also put me out of my comfort zone.
Q: Do you prefer working on your own or with a team? Why?
A: I like working as a team, but I like working by myself better because I don’t like to depend on people, and want myself to be organizedÂ
Q: What is something you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A: I like to cook during my free timeÂ
Q: What do you think makes someone a good speaker?
A: When they have confidence and speak loud. Also, they have to be passionate about their topic, not just knowing, but feeling.
Q: How do you feel about sharing your opinion in class?
A: I can share my opinion in class, and my teacher takes it into consideration.Â
Q: Do you think your teacher is good at understanding students’ opinions?
A: Yes, he even made a deal with us at the end of the year to get chick fil a
Q: What’s something you’d like to get better at?
A: I’d like to get better at memorizing speeches, that’s a very important part of Speech and Debate.
Q: What do you do when something feels challenging or confusing?
A: When an assignment gets hard, I usually read it over a few more times then ask my teacher to explain it to me.
Q: Would you rather win an argument or understand the other side?
A: I would understand the other side because it could give me better chances to win the whole entire argumentÂ
Q: What do you hope to gain from joining speech and debate?
A: A sense of knowing how to argue, and knowing about topics. Plus, it will look good
