On Tuesday, May 12th, Polo Park defeated Wellington Landings in an intense playoff semi-final, eliminating the Gators from the Boys’ Volleyball playoffs. The Gators, like in their previous regular season match against the Stallions, won the first set, and lost the last 2. The Gators won the first set 25-20, but the Stallions dominated the second set, the score being 10-25. In the 3rd and final set, Polo Park won 10-15.
Max B. wears number 9 for the Gators. He plays setter, and he is an 8th grader. He is a very important player for Wellington Landings.
Q: What do you think was the main reason that Landings lost today?
A: [It] was mostly a lack of communication, and we could’ve been calling out for the ball, mostly that. We should’ve been more ready to get received from big hitters.
Q: Do you think that this season was a success compared to the previous seasons despite the loss today?
A: Definitely, I feel like this is an improvement. We were actually division champions and we made it pretty far in the playoffs, couldn’t get it done, but we tried and we did our best.
Q: What do you think was the reason that polo park was able to dominate the second set more than other sets?
A: I feel like they didn’t slip and pull over the court, they had more communication than us, they had big hits, and very good coordination
Q: Do you think Landings has a strong enough base in the current 6th and 7th graders to win the county championship next year?
A: I feel like it could be done, hopefully they get better, so as the 8th graders, but i feel like they have a chance.
