Mr. Bailey is the choral director at WLMS. I am interviewing him about the choir’s most recent performance, MPA.
Q: What was the biggest challenge in preparing for MPA?
A: The biggest challenge was making sure 130 students knew what to do and when.
Q: Where did you see the most improvement in your students?
A: The biggest improvement was in tone quality and musicality.
Q: If you could do one thing differently what would it be?
A: I would have practiced walking on and off stage more.
Q: Do you think your students were ready for MPA or do you think they needed more time to practice?
A: Even if we had another 2 months, we would still have more things to improve on, but we were absolutely ready.
Q: What is something you noticed your students did on stage that made you proud?
A: They followed my conducting movements, which is something that not every middle school student is ready to do.
Q: What do you think was the strongest part of the performance?
A: I think it was in the balance between the parts because the students all contributed in a beautiful way.
