Wisconsin Hit by Their First-Ever February Tornado

On February 8th, 2024 the first-ever tornado in February located in Wisconsin touched down. This tornado touched down south of Madison, Wisconsin’s capital, between Evansville and Edgerton in Rock County. 

 

This tornado happened due to a storm across southern Wisconsin. The tornado warning expired at 6:45 pm and the first report was at 5:30 pm. At around 6:00 pm the weather service posted on X “This is a very dangerous storm; seek immediate shelter if in its path”. 

 

Thankfully no deaths were reported with just a couple of minor injuries. We Energies reported around 1,500 houses without power and Alliant Energy reported up to 3,700 houses without power. On Friday the National Weather Service assessed the damage of the tornado and ranked

Although this was the first February tornado there have been 3 January tornados with the most recent one happening in 2008.
